about

This song was written in 2008 after Proposition 8 passed in California, banning gay marriage. At that time there was no telling what the courts would do. My intention with this song was NOT to blame all homophobia on latent homosexuals. My thinking was that if we, as a culture, made it a cliche that anyone spouting homophobic views was covering for their own gayness, maybe the homophobes would just shut up. But as time has passed, and more and more anti-gay politicians have been outed for secretive homosexuality, I feel this also addresses a sad truth: many people have allowed themselves to succumb so deeply to ideology that they can't allow themselves to just be themselves. I hope this song will be taken in the spirit of support for the freedom of all people no matter how you may identify.
